Balasana - How To Do And What Are The Benefits?


Hi, In yoga poses, Balasana / Child's pose is one of the simple and beginner level pose to practice on a daily basis, which will definitely improve your overall health. It is a resting pose with a gentle stretch.

What is Balasana?

Balasana (child's pose) is a beginner level yoga posture, which provides a nice stretch to our various body parts. It also plays a major role in calming mind and relieving stress & fatigue. Balasana is commonly practiced as a resting posture between other yoga postures.

Precautions:

  • Avoid doing this asana if you have any knee/ ankle injuries.
  • If you are pregnant, do not press your belly against thighs.
  • Patients with high blood pressure should avoid practicing balasana.

How To Do:


  1. Kneel on the floor and touch your big toes together. Sit on your heels, now separate your knees as hip-width. Take breath.
  2. Exhale and lay your torso between the thighs. The forehead must rest on the floor.
  3. Stretch your arms in front of you with the palms towards the floor.                                        Variation: You can also keep your arms alongside your thighs with the palms facing upwards. Release the front of your shoulders towards floor.
  4. Stay in this pose for 1-3 minutes keeping constant breathing.
  5. To release the pose, gently move your torso to upright position and sit on your heels.
