Cleansing oils are popular nowadays and we can get it from any beauty stores. The increasing popularity of cleansing oils shows the positive impact of it on our skin care routine. Before starting to use any cleansing oils on your skin, you have to know a little more detail about it to get the desired result out of it. You can definitely give it a try, if you need a more radiant and nourished skin texture.
What is Oil Cleansing
Oil cleansing is the way of cleansing your face with some natural oils in order to keep it nourished and moisturized. It efficiently removes all the dirt, oils, and makeup residues from your skin and gives it a more hydrated feel. It is a great cleansing method for those who have acne problem on their skin.
Why you need Oil Cleansing
Since Oil cleansing is a natural method of cleansing your face, it doesn't make your skin condition more worse. Unlike any other face wash or facial soap which are chemical based, it never makes any damage to your skin cells. It is also very effective in removing the dead skin cells from your face and makes it more radiant. The cleansing oil that you applied on your face dissolves all the dirt and sebum that clog the pores of your skin, and thereby reduces the chance of acne and breakouts. It is guaranteed that oil cleansing keeps your skin well moisturized and there is no need to apply a moisturizer on your face after oil cleansing.
How To choose the right oil for you
Oil cleansing can be done with just one oil of your choice, or with a mixture of 2 or 3 oils. You can choose any oil depending on your skin type. Addition of some essential oils are recommended for oil cleansing, but you can skip them if you are a beginner in oil cleansing method. Because the essential oils are too strong and they may cause some irritation on sensitive skin types, it is safe to avoid them for a while.
- You can use the only base/nourishing oils (olive oil, sunflower oil,jojoba oil) for oils cleansing .
- If you are using a mixture of oils, always use the combination of an astringent/active oil (castor oil, hazelnut oil) with some carrier oils (olive oil, sunflower oil).
- Select a suitable carrier oil for your skin type:
Dry skin - Olive oil, avocado oil
Oily skin - sunflower oil
Normal skin - Jojoba oil, coconut oil, sunflower oil, Tamanu oil.
Castor oilNormal skin - Jojoba oil, coconut oil, sunflower oil, Tamanu oil.
- Most commonly used astringent oils are:
Hazelnut oil
Grape seed oil
- Do a patch test before using any oil on your face.
How To Do Oil Cleansing:
- Choose any oil or mixture of oil as per your preference.
- Pour a generous amount of the mixture to your palm and rub your hands together to warm the oil.
- Rub the oil gently all over your dry face in circular motion for good 60 seconds. This dissolves all the dirt, impurities and makeup residues into the cleansing oil.
- Pay special attention to the problem areas of your skin.
- Soak a soft wash cloth in running hot water.
- Place the towel on your face which will help to open up the pores and clean it properly and wipe out the excess oil gently from your face.
- Repeat the above step 3-4 times.
- Your skin will be well moisturized after this and there is no need of applying a moisturizer .
Some DIY recipes for Oil Cleansing:
For Oily Skin:
1 part castor oil + 4 part sunflower oil/ any other carrier oil.For Dry Skin
1 part castor oil + 5 part carrier oil (sunflower oil, olive oil or avocado oil) .Combination skin
1 part castor oil /hazelnut oil + 4 part sunflower oil/ coconut oil.Acne prone skin
1 part castor oil + 2 part sunflower oil/coconut oil +2 part argan oil.Normal skin
1 part Castor oil + 5 part sunflower oil.You can simply use Jojoba oil/ coconut oil to cleanse your skin.
Things To Remember
- It is always needed some trial and error method to select a perfect blend of oils for you.
- Never apply the astringent oils directly for oil cleansing.
- If your skin feels tight after cleansing, reduce the amount of astringent oil on next time.
- Never scrub your face while you wipe out the excess oil.
- It will take a week or more for your skin to adapt to oil cleansing and gives a good result, so be patient...
