10 Effective Ways To Manage Oily Skin


Hi, There are no easy methods to prevent our skin from producing excess oil, that makes our face very oily and greasy. But, by following some simple steps in our skin care routine, we can control the oiliness on our face. Oily skin is prone to acne and blackheads. By taking special care we can reduce skin problems. By following some simple routines, it is very easy for you to get a glowing and shine-free skin.

1. Find the right cleanser

Face cleansing is the best way to remove excess oil from your face. You can wash your face twice a day - in morning and before bed time. Never overdo it.  If you wash your face more frequently, there are more chances to increase the oil production. Also use a gentle face wash which is suitable for oily/acne prone skin. Avoid using any harsh chemical soaps on your face.

2. Use an alcohol-free toner

Use an alcohol- free toner to remove the excess oil from your face. Take 3-4 drops of toner in a cotton pad and wipe on your face. Avoid using toners containing astringents like alcohol, camphor, menthol etc. You can use toners once a day. It is better t use some natural ingredient toners like rose water or cucumber toner.

3. Choose the right moisturizer

Every skin type need moisturizer to stay it healthy. The biggest mistakes that oily skinned people do, is skipping moisturizer. The oil produces in your skin never substitute the need of moisturizing your skin. It needs to be well hydrated to keep it healthy and smooth. There are more chances for an increased oil production in a dehydrated skin. So it is important to keep your skin well hydrated and moisturized. Always go for an oil-free, non-comedogenic moisturizer and stay away from heavy creams.

4. Keep your hands out of your face

If you have an oily/acne prone skin, continuous face touching can be lead to breakouts. And also there are more chances for transferring dirt and other impurities from your hand to face. Never squeeze out pimples and blackheads from your face using fingers.

5. Use blotting papers

Blotting papers are very effective to soak up the excess oil from your face. If you feel you skin more oily and shiny in between facial cleansing, use a blotting paper to freshen up your face. Be gentle while removing the excess oil with blotting paper, do not rub your face. Always keep a blotting paper in your hand bag, if you are going out.

6. Exfoliate once a week

Exfoliate once a week to remove dirt and oil from the pores of skin. It prevents pores from clogging. Exfoliation also removes the dead skin cells from your face. Never exfoliate your face more than twice a week, since it make your skin drying, which increases the oil production.

7. Use face masks twice a week

Face masks with excess oil absorbing ingredients like clay, oatmeal are effective to use on oily skin. Face mask using lemon, tomato juice works well on oily skin type. Use such face masks twice a week.

8. Go for right make-up products

Never use heavy makeup products on your skin. Such products causes clogging of pores and there by increases the chances of acne and breakouts. Use powder like cosmetic products ( foundation, blush) on your face than using creamy ones. Always choose oil-free, mattifying face products for a better look.

9. Apply sunscreen

Use a sunscreen which doesn't contain any oils or fragrance, before you stepping out. It prevents skin from sun damage. Use sunscreen gels which are mostly light-weight and will not clog the pores of your skin.

10. Have a healthy diet

It is very important to have a healthy diet for your overall skin health. Eat those fruits and vegetables which helps to maintain a healthy and glowing skin. Avoid alcohol consumption and junk foods, which will damage your skin health.
