Traditional ornaments looks elegant on every bride and it will be better for you, if you choose some traditional ornaments in addition to the other ones, to wear on your wedding day. Here I am providing some of Kerala traditional neck piece ornaments....
1. Mullamottu Maala:
This traditional neck piece contain a number of gold petals like jasmine buds (Mullamottu) running across the necklace. It is available as plain gold necklace or with stones embedded on it. It can be worn as a first/second row necklace , or as a long one in the last row.
2. Lexmi Maala:
This pattern contain a number of round coins with the idol of goddess Lexmi encrypted on each coin. According to Hindu Ttradition Goddess Lexmi is considered as a symbol of wealth and spiritual prosperity. It is also a good choice to wear itself on any functions with a traditional wear.
3. Manga Maala:
Manga maala consist of small mango shaped pendants running across the chain. It is definitely a trendy and traditional choice. It enriches the overall look of ornaments on the special day. It is really an appealing one and available in a variety of designs with/without gemstones.
4. Pathakkam:
Pathakkam is a simple golden necklace with a gorgeous pendant at the centre. These are available with a wide variety of designs and is the most attractive one in the bride's trousseau. It can be used as the first necklace closest to neck. The pendant can be engraved with any favorite designs with / without embedding gemstones.
5. Kaasu Maala:
Kaasu maala is a collection of gold coins assembled together in the form of a chain. It almost looks like a lexmi maala but differs a little from it. Kasu Maala is used a long chain without any pendants. It is the best match with Kerala traditional settu saree.
6. Palakka Maala:
Palakka maala consist of small leaf like pendants running across the chain. It is a combination of emeralds and rubies that makes it more attractive. It is available in a variety of different shapes and designs.
7. Nagapadathali:
This traditional neck piece is very similar to palakka maala. The only difference is in the shape of pendants. It is more attractive to use Nagapada thali as a necklace close to neck and palakka maala as a long chain.
8. Elakkathali:
Elakkathali is a belt like gold chain containing a lot of very small thalis like structures dangling from it. It is used as the very first necklace. It is definitely the one which enhances the overall grace of the bride. It is now available in a wide variety of designs.
9. Poothali:
Poothali also contains dangling thalis like in Elakkathali but the designs are entirely different. It comes as a broad design, often intricate the flowers and leaf design. It is used as a necklace in the firt /second row closer to the neck.
10. Kumbil Maala
Kumbil maala is a collection of small folded leaf structures assembled in the form of a chain. The size of the leaf structures may vary as per different designs. It may contain some attractive gemstones. It is a very good design and a good choice for bridal purpose.
