As a result it causes itchiness and appearance of white flakes on scalp. There are so many anti dandruff shampoos are available in the market, most of them contain harsh chemicals. Using these types of shampoos on a regular basis sometimes causes hair loss, hair thinning and other problems. So it is better to do some natural home remedies to control dandruff. Here I am mentioning some easy to use, good, natural home remedies to control dandruff.
1. Relax and Get A Good Diet
A lot of stress or tension is a main cause of increasing dandruff. So it is important that you have to relax and get a good sleep. Practicing meditation and yoga will help to reduce your stress and thereby relax your mind.
A good diet is needed to keep your scalp healthy. A healthy scalp reduces the chances of accumulating dandruff on it. Drink a lot of water, the lack of water causes a dry skin and a dry scalp. This may be a reason for dandruff. Include a lot of fruits and vegetables in your diet to keep your scalp healthy.
In addition to the diet you must always be careful to keep your scalp clean all the time by washing it properly.
2. Coconut oil
Coconut oil is a good solution for dandruff since it has anti bacterial and anti fungal properties. It also helps to improve the hydration in scalp and prevent dryness.
How to Use:
Massage your scalp with 3-5 Tablespoon of coconut oil and let it be there for 1 hour. Then shampoo normally. Doing this regularly will reduce the dandruff and improve the health of your scalp.
3. Aloe Vera
Aloe Vera is used to heal a lot of skin problems. It soothe the skin and heal irritated, itchy skin. In addition to fight with dandruff, it also heals the itching due to dandruff.
How to Use:
Massage your scalp with some fresh Aloe Vera gel, before shampooing. You can leave the Aloe Vera gel on your hair for 30-45 minutes for better results. Then rinse it with normal water.
4. Neem leaves
Neem prevents the over-growth of dandruff causing fungus. It also relieves itching of scalp. The anti inflammatory properties of neem leaves helps to relive skin irritations.
How to Use:
Grind a handful of neem leaves to a smooth paste. Add 1 teaspoon of coconut/olive oil into it. Apply it all over your scalp and leave it there for 30 minutes. Then rinse it off with a mild shampoo as you normally do.
Alternate method:
Add a hanful of neem leaves to 4-5 cups of hot water and let it stay over-night. Strain the water and use this water to rinse your scalp and hair.
5. Sour curd
Sour curd is an effective remedy for dandruff. It prevents the scaling of the scalp. Also it is a good source of probiotics, which helps in treating dandruff. It adds a good shine to your hair.
How to Use:
Take a small amount of yogurt/curd and apply it all over scalp and hair. Leave it there for 30 minutes. Then rinse with a mild shampoo.
6. Fenugreek
Fenugreek seeds contain a lot of minerals and vitamins which are effective in curing dandruff. It also nourishes your scalp and reduce the hair fall.
How to Use:
Soak 3-4 Tablespoon of fenugreek seeds in water overnight. Grind the seeds and make it into a smooth paste. Apply it and leave there for 45 minutes. Then wash it off with a mild shampoo. If you have a dry and frizzy hair, add 1 teaspoon of oil into the paste and mix it well before applying.
7. Henna
Henna is widely used for many hair problems and it is also a good remedy for dandruff. It helps to reduce the scalp irritation and itching. Lemon juice added in henna is an amazing ingredient in treating dandruff.
How to Use:
Mix 2-3 tablespoon of henna powder with 1-2 tablespoon of Amla powder and 1 teaspoon of lemon juice. If you have dry hair, add 1 teaspoon of coconut oil to it. Mix them well to make a smooth paste. Keep this mixture aside for 3-4 hours. Apply it on scalp and hair , leave it there for 1-2 hours. The wash with a mild shampoo.
