How to choose the perfect body moisturizer for you



Hi, Body moisturizers, up to some extend, can be a solution for many problems of our skin. Since our skin daily exposes to many harmful elements, it needs a proper care. It is relatively simple to take care of our skin with a good skin care routine. Skin moisturization is a very important part of skin care routine. To get the best result of skin moisturization, you have to choose the perfect moisturizer that matches your skin. Here I provide some tips for choosing the right one for you.

1. Know your skin

Dry Skin: Dry skin needs rich creamy moisturizers, especially in winters. An oil based moisturizer works best for dryness. Body butters have a good thick texture and suitable for dry skin. Go for something lighter in summers.
Normal Skin/Combination Skin: These skin types needs a light weight moisturizer. Gel creams and body lotions suits better for these skin types since it provides hydration and some oils to retain the hydration.
Oily Skin: Oily skin needs a oil-free light weight moisturizer and it should be non-comedogenic. Select a moisturizer with water like structure such as gels since it contains the lowest amount of oil like substances.
Sensitive Skin: If you have a sensitive skin which is easily irritated and prone to rashes, select a smooth fragrance-free cream moisturizer. Go for ingredients like Aloe-Vera which has anti-inflammatory properties.


2.Determine what your skin needs


Consider any other issues your skin have, in addition to dryness,
  • If your skin has extra-dryness or cracking, consider a petroleum-based product for best results.
  • Sun exposure can be a cause of dryness and damaged skin. So you can consider one with sun protection if you are regularly exposed to sun light.
  • An oil-based moisturizer works good on older skin, since the oil producing glands are not very active.
  • A hypo-allergic and fragrance-free moisturizer works best on sensitive skin.

3. Selecting the best one which suits you


  • Choose a skin-type appropriate one: Start with selecting a moisturizer which suits your skin type. Note the labels like oil-free if you have oily skin and select one with label non-comedogenic and fragrance-free if you have a acne prone / sensitive skin.
  • Note the ingredients:Note some of the first ingredients based on your needs. Ingredients like dimethicone, hyaluronic acid helps to keep skin hydrated. Petrolatum, glycerin prevent the water loss from skin. So they are suitable for dry skin. The antioxidant ingredients like green tea, chamomile helps your skin look fresh and healthy. If you have an easily irritated skin select something with natural ingredients without any dyes and fragrance.
  • Go for added sunscreen: To protect your skin from sun, pick a moisturizer that includes sun protection.
  • Try different moisturizers: Different brands of moisturizers are now available for each skin type. So it is ultimately in your hands to choose the perfect one for you. For that you can try different brands which suits you. If you want to try a new brand, go for a sample pack or travel-size one. The only way to find the perfect one suits you is only the trial and error....

4. Know what to avoid

  • Dyes and fragrances: Its good for your skin to avoid the added colors and perfumes. They have nothing to do with skin moisturization.
  • Extra dry-skin friendly ingredients: If you have a dry or normal to dry skin, don't go for a moisturizer mainly for extra dryness. Those ingredients for extra dryness may worse your existing skin condition.
  • Don't spend too much: It is sure that you can find the best moisturizer for your skin with in your budget. So no need to go for great brands and spend too much. Its a myth that the moisturizer with higher price works better than those with smaller price.
